NONVIOLENZE releases new music video for “Mirror”

Solo artists have the royalty to experiment and write music at their own will. Perhaps, that’s the reason as to why the majority of the experimental acts are solo ventures. Needless to say, such ventures are always a pleasure to listen to – the amount of creativity and the flair showcased by the artist let you observe the music in a different way – creating a new vibe altogether. That’s the reason why I love searching for solo artists. This year, too, was no different. My active search for one led me to Nonviolenze – a Rock band based out of Houston, spearheaded by Shri Baratan.

The experimentation that Baratan demonstrates is evident from his newly released music video for the hit single “Mirror” off of his debut album, “Ghosts of War”. The single shows how well Baratan incorporates his eastern classical influence to the main structure held by the Modern Prog Rock. His roots in Rock can be explained with his musical interests that range from Pink Floyd to Al Jarreau. The album, “Ghosts of War” features a total of 9 tracks, out of which “Mirror” is a noticeable hit.

With a runtime of around 4 minutes, the song is a perfect combination of wise and creative instrumentation, and clever lyricism. The central theme of the song is Cosmos, and how its synonymous to a mirror that reflects body, mind and feeling. Baratan says that one cannot hide from this Cosmic Mirror for it knows your innermost feelings. Everything you perceive is a reflection of you. It should come as no surprise as Baratan’s songwriting engages listeners with such deep-rooted themes. Some of the other singles on the album is based on topics such as war, poverty, politics, human rights, psychology, philosophy and spirituality.

When it comes to the track, the instrumentation is set in such a way that the listeners will get hooked to the aforementioned theme. A haunting melody can be felt all through the single. The combination of organic acoustics and vivid electric tones make the song even better – giving off the required ambience to digest the theme of the song. His wise interpretation of freestyle rhythm helps the music to flow and the finger-picking sections amplifies the melody.

Needless to say, “Mirror” will surely become one of the benchmarks for assessing Nonviolenze, or Baratan’s career, in general. For those who love the track, I would recommend listening to the album at its entirety. This will give you an idea as to how clever Baratan is, and his ability to write tracks that not only hooks the listeners, but also conveys a meaningful message to his listeners. Personally, I’m very much looking forward to what he puts out next.
