Cool songs: Among the Dead, The Day Innocence Died, In a Dying Embrace

KIMAERA was brought to life in 2000 by its leader, Jean Pierre Haddad, under the name CHIMERA. The band’s music is original, with some mixtures added by individual musicians, plus extra ordinary sound enriched by violins and feminine voice. That is something pretty good, and it is all from Lebanon. Very interesting…

‘Ebony Veiled’ starts very strongly, but do not be mislead by that, because here, everything is varied, and I mean it. It is just like dooming gothic metal, associated with gloomy sounds and atmosphere, which helped suicide-to-be, to become one of those. But here, the songs have a deeper dimension, they vary from the first note, they can start very heavily and finish in a poetic way. And vice versa. With the idea of combining two types of vocals the band hit the jackpot! The heavy and fleshy growl, accompanied by that sweet feminine Milia’s voice creates such a wonderful atmosphere, that anyone could hardly imagine. It is just as if an angel was dancing with a hideous demon, but they were enjoying it. The riffs are very self-confident, the drums are fast, and this destroys the feeling of drowning, which is constantly present, while you are listening to depressing gothic songs. The music is varied, the mood and pace change very often, and the keyboard intro to ‘In a Dying Embrace’ is a little symphony. From the whole album, this song is highly recommendable. Pure melodic death metal, plus elements of opera. Well done.

KIMAERA shows music does not have to be locked in one particular shelf, that genres can mix together and create something new – a hybrid which sounds outstanding. And this is it! That is what we all are waiting for. Oh… and a little minus, because there is still some repetition of own ideas… too much copying.
