Florida Death Metals, MONSTROTIY return with their first album in 8 years, “Screams from Beneath the Surface.” The band has been active for 40 years, so the band is veteran status. Really, MONSTROSITY’s claim to fame is previously having George Fisher of CANNIBAL CORPSE. Fans of CC will be happy to hear how Cloe Edwin Webb is to Corpsegrinder. He has all the hallmarks of Corpsegrinder, including deep lows and harsh screams. Edwin has the type of voice CC has, but even better than Corpsegrinder. Edwin just sounds fresher. It’s like hearing Corpsegrinder in his early years.

Musically, the band are in full gear. Drummer, Lee Harrison, an original member, leads the way in their onslaught of death. From killer fills, to pure speed, Harrison proves he’s an underrated drummer. Part of the reason he sounds so good is the production. Every instrument is at the forefront of the mix, including bassist Mark van Erp’s bass is upfront and bashes without mercy. Guitarists Matt Barnes and Justin Walker play a diverse platter of tempo changes from doomy dirges to speedy tremolo picking. The two flesh very well.

MONSTROSITY is an underrated band. They never get the credit they should have. They are overshadowed by the big four of Florida Death Metal—OBITURARY, MORBID ANGEL, CANNIBAL CORPSE AND DEICIDE. Wiith “Screams from Beneath the Surface” MONSTROSITY show their worth. “Screams from Beneath the Surface” blows away anything the afore mentioned bands have put out lately. Whatever they are doing, MONSTROSITY still has it.
