Cool Songs: “Assemble,” Blood Bath,” “Compelled”
Heavy Metallers, DEATH DEALER are a super group. Their new album, “Reign of Steel” is fronted by Sean Peck. Peck is one of the best singers in heavy metal. He has a range and high register that is hard to emulate. Peck has appeared on CAGE albums and SHERMANN/DENNER(MERCYFUL FATE). The lineup also includes Ex-MANOWAR guitarist Ross “The Boss” Friedman on one axe while Stu Marshall (EMPIRES OF EDEN) also plays guitar. The group is rounded out with Mike LePond, on bass, who has appeared on over 40 albums. Drummer, Steve Bolgnese, is known for his work in WITHERFALL.
“Reign of Steel” kicks off with one of the highlights of the album, “Assemble.” The track opens with a catchy guitar harmony and excellent drum fills. The first verse begins with one of Peck’s many ghostly vocal highs. A catchy chorus consisting of more high-pitched vocals combined with a gang chorus is a highlight of the song. The following track, “Blast The Highway,” is solid musically, but the chorus lines are kind of cheesy. It has a chorus about, what I assume, is about riding motorcycles. However, the chorus lines are certainly catchy. Peck is at his best on “The Dragon of Allogorath,” as he belts out an insanely long scream. He told me he issued a challenge to anyone to surpass this scream. I don’t think anyone met this challenge. Absolutely amazing!
Other tracks to check out include “Bloodbath,” which is quite brutal for a power/heavy metal band. It contains blast beats! The bass is upfront and certainly heavy. “Compelled” has ringing chords and old school riffs that bring to mind ICED EARTH. The rest of the album need not be analyzed as it is something that needs to be listened to and our readers inform their own opinions. Having formed in 2012, the band has released several killer albums, so our readers who enjoy their newest opus should definitely check these out, too, as well as CAGE and DENNER/SHERMANN.
