THIRD VOICE – Interview with Jason

Hello Jason! I won`t ask you to tell me about band`s history because I think most people and especially progsters are familiar with you. I would like you to explain me why “Moments like these” was so late to get released?

That's a real long story, Just about everything that could happen, did!! The studio broke down a few times, and recording time was hard to come by, we had death in my family and the engineers family, I was even in a car accident while I was on my way to record one night. It just seemed to take forever. The one good thing to come from all that time was the last song I wrote “End of the Circle” If the CD would have been done when I expected it to be –that song would have never made it on the new disc, and that's one of my favorites.

Progressive nowadays has lost its meaning I think. Most bands try to sound as technical as they can and they pay less attention to the meaning of music. You differ. You play music from your heart and this can be noticed in your cd. How do you create a song?

Thank you! That's one of the greatest compliments some one can give. It's all about the song. I try to let all the parts flow together like a composition should. I get the feeling that some bands just cut and paste guitar riffs together. When you do that – it's hard to have any type of melodic structure. I think that's the main problem with a lot of bands. Many of them contain great players but that's about it. Note and chord choice is everything and if you can incorporate the technique with out sounding like you forced it, then the chances are you have a good song.

Your lyrics are also full of meanings and with an optimistic point of view. How important is the matter of lyrics for Third Voice?

The music and the lyrics go hand in hand. The music is what give the lyrics life – without the music, they're just empty words on paper. I think that everyone can appreciate what I write about. It's definitely not the typical metal stuff about dungeons and dragons.

In the band you write all the music and Jeff Kearney is responsible for the vocals. How easy it is for just two people to create so many songs? Why you do not try to find other musicians?

Jeff is a great singer and we work very well together, he knows what I like. I like to think that the music makes it easier for him to sing over. The music has a lot of breathing room – so to speak. I think it gives him a chance to show what a great and diversified singer he is. I would love to find other musicians to complete the band and that's been the hardest thing. It's hard to find people to see the big picture, many just want to play out in the local bar for 25 dollars a night. I am also very proud of the music I wrote, and many people would feel out of place playing someone else's song without much input. But who knows what the future holds. I would love to have a full band to record and tour with.

The promotion you have for both of your cds is more than good. I have heard about you in many webzines and fanzines in my country and not only. Have you had any offers from a label to sign a deal?

The reviews and press from your country have been great and I'm very thankful. I hope to find a distributor real soon to pick up the CD. We haven't had much label luck yet, we will have to wait and see what happens.

What are your plans for the future? I wish we have not to wait so much time again for your next album….

We are recording a new song that we will release on our website within the next couple months. I also plan on re-recording a song off our first CD (Reflections). It's called “From Where you Stand” and is a fan favorite. As for a future CD, I'm not sure yet. I have to wait and see if this CD can breakeven. It's real expensive to do it yourself.

So, this is the end. I wanna thank for your time and wish you luck for the future. Last words are yours…

Thank You!!!! If anyone would like to order the CD please visit www.thirdvoicemusic.com You can order it directly from us or from some online CD shops. We would be more than happy to hear what everyone thinks of it. Thanks again and take care!!!
