NECRONOMICON – interview with Freddy, singer and guitar player

Your new album „Constant to Death” will be released in a few days. What are your fresh feelings after recording it?

First of all, I would like to thank you for the interview and your interest in NECRONOMICON. When I wrote the album, my goal was to pay tribute to our punk roots. I wanted to create an album that comes across a bit “dirtier” again; but still manage a balancing act between Thrash Metal , Punk and Power Metal. My goal was to write an album with songs like I love them…without having to serve a cliché or expectations. Just an album that I can listen to over and over again and say to myself: hey boy, you did a good job. I hope I managed to do that to some extent…lol

Do you happen to have such feeling before the release of your albums that you would already change something in production or lyrics? Are you so called control freak?

Of course, when the songs are being mixed and mastered, you still think about whether everything is the way it should be. But at some point you have to draw a line and release the material. I am very happy with it…

As for the lyrics, the second single “They Lie” is very straight forward about current topic of war in Ukraine. Do other songs on the album also touch such topics like this one?

The album has not for nothing the title “Constant To Death”. The themes are very focused on the current events, including, of course, Putin’s war of aggression against Ukraine. But also topics like the child abuse in the churches or child poverty worldwide are important topics to which I allude.

It is your third album with German label El Puerto Records. How is the cooperation going so far?

I am quite happy with the label. It’s an independent label and for that they do a pretty good job.

What are your concert plans for spring and summer time? Do you plan any tour or single festivals during that time?

I would like to go to South America and Japan again. Especially in the South American countries we have a lot of fans and the last years the focus was very much  the Eastern European part of the world, which I have learned to appreciate and love. Special thank is due to our Polish fans. Simply great.

As for concerts, I am Polish and my home town is Krosno in the south of Poland. You played in my city two times in Rock Klub Iron. What are you recollections from those two shows?

It´s like „ coming home“. We don’t call the club owner ” Papa” for nothing; it’s a very special relationship with this club. And the club is just fucking awesome.

You are the only founding member of the band and main composer of musical content. Do you have any plans to try yourself in some other metal styles or completely different genres?

I would like to do a punk project. Whether that runs or goes now with or under the name NECRONOMICON, I don’t know yet. Otherwise I need time to enjoy the new album. And I will do that !!! I hope I find with this album a lot of fans , who support me in it. Thanks in advance.

You started in early 80s and saw all the changes in the music business till now from tape trading to internet channels with music that is easily accessible. Do you see this old school passion in younger generation of musicians and fans who did not have a chance to experience the times of 80s and 90s?

It is generally not easy to exist and be successful as a musician. What I can only advise everyone: “believe in what you love and do”. And don’t let yourself get sidetracked. Perseverance and steadfastness are an essential factor for success. And of course a bit of luck. And yes, maybe it’s a bit easier to get a decent music production nowadays as the possibilities have become wider and bigger. But in the end you have to deliver something, have good ideas, be creative and that is the art of every musician. That will never change.

Are you up to date with current equipment novelties or you keep an old school approach to guitars and other stuff?

I am an absolute Gibson guitar fan. And I love the tube amps. There I am “old school”. Only in terms of stage equipment, I already fall back on novelties.

Do you see any chance for at least one time event with you and some other Thrash legends like SODOM, KREATOR, TANKARD or DESTRUCTION? It was a very successful move with US Thrash bands and fans loved it. Have you ever talked about such idea?

I would very much welcome that. But that’s not so easy, because everyone drives his own program and everyone is very busy. But I would find that great.

Thank you for the interview, would like to add anything to METAL CENTRE readers?

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your years of sincere support. You will always be a very big part of the NECRONOMICON family. Please believe me. And enjoy the new album. See you soon on tour.
