R.U.S.T.X.- Interview with the band

Blasting old school rock since 2003, the band released their third album, entitled “Center of the Universe” on November 15. R.U.S.T.X is one among the oldest Cypriot rock bands and this album is surely a treat for all those who have been following this band. R.U.S.T.X primarily focusses on retaining their loyal fans as well as trying to make a difference in the stagnant rock industry by injecting some old school stuff.

Your new album was released on November 15. How has the response been from the fans? Are you happy with the way the album sounds?

Its doing great. Every day we have great reviews from friends, fans, magazines and webzines.
We are very happy of how the albums sounds.

You guys have been around since 2003. Throughout these 16 years, what all have changed?

A lot of things have change since then. Except from the band members we achieved to evolve into better musicians and become more progressive and detailed in our music. Back then we were kids full of dreams and goals. A lot of those dreams we already accomplished but we have a lot to do

Has Metal reached its stagnation point? Are there any potential experimentations that you think would bring uniqueness in Metal?

We don’t believe there is a stagnation point in music. Music finds the way to evolve and being avant-garde through us. The thing is that we people have to believe in Metal music and have more free time to hear it through other bands or concerts. The only thing that Heavy Music needs now and all of planet earth is to WAKE UP.   Stop what you are doing with your mobile phone or Netflix and get out there and listen to Heavy Metal Music or go to a concert.

Pitch Black is your new home! How has been the experience of recording a new album under their belt?

Until now everything is perfect. The promotion all over the world is fantastic.
We are very satisfied with Pitch Black Records.

Being a local legend and a representative of the Cypriot Metal scene, why do you think Cypriot scene is not as popularised when compared to others, while there is true potential in bands hailing from Cyprus?

Before the 2000s it was very difficult in Cyprus even to record an album. No big festivals, no record companies, no distribution, no nothing. We had some very good bands but it was difficult to get abroad. Because we are an island it was too expensive to travel abroad. Now things are better and more and more local bands find a way to play live abroad. One of the most important things for a band and a scene is to be able to expand all across the world and make connections everywhere.

Is music subjective or objective? Do you see genre classification as a major problem?

Music is everything and everywhere. It doesn’t have or doesn’t need boundaries. It’s something that came out from the stardust of the universe and it’s there to help us people communicate with others.

It’s there to show our feelings and say the things we want to say.

Genre classification is something that we people created just to have a way to distinguish things.

What is Black and what is white. The truth is that both black and white are the same thing, Colour.

It’s the same thing with music. Everything is music and we decide with our character and our background in this life what we truly want to hear to make us feel pain, satisfaction, action, love, hate and so many other feelings.

As an old-school rocker, what’s your take on programmed drums? If given a chance, would you opt for it?

No we don’t. We always play live and record original drums. Stay True and Alive with Music.
More and more technology pushes away the true emotion of music and the player that plays it and records it.

What influenced you guys the most to pursue a career in the Music Industry?

To be able to travel around the world spreading our music, our stories, meeting new people and most important have fun!

What’s next for R.U.S.T.X? Should we be expecting anything new from you guys, anytime soon?

We are currently touring around Europe promoting Center of the Universe and we are doing great.
Just returned from Greece and some shows we had there and can’t wait for the next concert. Most probably in a few months we will try and release our latest album on LP.
