IN ARKADIA was born in 2005 and their musical style was
heavy metal. Yes, theyve abandoned the heavy and melodic play, to create more heavy and thrashy music, with lots of melodic elements. Who knows, maybe if some European new born heavy metal stars did such thing, they would be famous?
The powerful strike after that pathetic intro can really squeeze the brains. Such freshness and purity of melodic death metal I havent heard for some time. The most important and noticeable advantage of those compositions is their ripeness. They prove that the musicians are in very good shape are good craftsmen. The style is of their own production and it cannot be stated, that they copied something from someone. Those fleshy, machine-like riffs can pulverize, they simply sound as if they were from the stone age: it is pure power, heavy, raw, not spoiled by electronic devices. Not to mention the solos which simply throw you on the floor lying flat. Thanks to often style and motif shifts, this album is not boring, it is full of energy and brings some sort of aberrant joy to the listener. Despite of all those superlatives, the album has one major disadvantage, and that is the compositions themselves. They do not vary much one from another. They vary inside of each, but when it comes to the overall project, it seems, as the compositions were created from one concept idea. In this mono-idea-metal background, one song is of higher value: Not Enough Time is something new on this album, a song where acoustic guitars have something to say, and they manage to tame the predictability. Despite of that predictability, this album can bring some good moments of listening.
IN ARKADIA shows, that melodic death metal can be created on the basis of own ideas, even if those are sometimes limited to one idea. But this does not matter, when the musicians can perform this idea in different ways, so that it sounds slightly different in every composition. IN ARKADIA have got enough of imagination and spontaneous sense to do it.. and they did.
