THORNAFIRE To Play Obscene Extreme Festival

Ibex Moon recording artists THORNAFIRE have been invited to play the Czech Republic’s world renowned Obscene Extreme Festival (July 15–17, 2010).

Guitarist Victor Mac-Namara had this to say about the honor. “We come from the Hell of South America, spreading our twisted and poisoned madness for several years and are very pleased to participate in this great festival. We will deliver the dark vibes of our latest CD Vorex Deconstrucción from the stage, as well as our past work. In this strange current era where expression is dispersing and vanishing, even underground music, the powerful presence of our music will not go unnoticed!”

THORNAFIRE will also be adding show dates in other European countries during the month of July. Be on the lookout!

THORNAFIRE’s Vorex Deconstrucción was released last year on Ibex Moon Records. The band’s previous release, Exacerbated Gnostic Manifestation, is also available through Ibex Moon.

About Vorex Deconstrucción

The sophomore release for Ibex Moon Records is another step forward in a death metal style that is old school based with a muscular, modern production. Says guitarist Victor Mac-Namara, “The songs that we composed are not in the current way of endless blast beat songs. We do it the old way – memorable music with variety, twisted riffs, and a lot of madness!”

On Vorex Deconstrucción Thornafire has captured the true spirit of a Southern American death metal style that worships at the altar of the ancient ones and takes it cues from the likes Morbid Angel, Krisiun, (early) Sepultura, and Pentagram (Chile), while putting its own unique spin on the genre. The combination of Juan Pablo Donoso’s batter and clatter drumming, Mac-Namara’s giant array of monster riffs and bassist Alexis Munoz’s David-Vincent-meets-Tom-G-Warrior vocals is nothing short of explosive. Combined with occasional synth accents, lyrics sung entirely in Spanish, and guest vocal spots from professional actress Maria Araya, the album establishes Thornafire as one of South America’s premier death metal acts.

Mac-Namara had this to say about the lyrical themes:

“The lyrics of the album speak to issues related to this continent and Latin America more specifically. The loss of identity, the assassination of the spiritual and religious beliefs and the link with the old earth, animals instincts, perception and wisdom, all by the intrusion of monotheism and the economic and political system to get the masses blind with promises and spiritual rewards. The truth is that each song represents a different situation, but all converge into the analysis of religion and human systems to limit the mental independence of the masses.”

Finally, Mac-Namara discusses the chilling contribution of Araya:

“She does the parts that represent confessions of the Chilean nun Úrsula Suárez (1666 – 1749). The church confessors forced her to write their visions, but as penance. She has lots of phobias and deranged thoughts. She thinks that marriage is a sentence of death for women and that sex in marriage would be [equivalent to] funeral rites. Maria does a great job with the audio performance!”

When it comes to true Latin American death metal, Vorex Deconstrucción is as real as it gets. Be prepared; death is imminent.
