It was a big day for me. Finally after all these years of listening to metal I would hear the little man with the great voice. Ronnie James Dio. A legend in Heavy Metal.

His voice and his influence in Heavy Metal are big, but his music doesn't reveal new territory in Metal. Old School Metal. But like someone in the audience. Who cares? Because you will listen to the music, just alone of his vocals and the fact that he's 62 years old!

This night there was about 600 people to the show and on a monday night it was quite good. Surprisingly there was no support band this night. But if helped one to stay away from the bar and saved me a lot of money. The first number Dio presented was the title track from the new album “Killing the Dragon”, and then followed the classic tracks like “Holy Diver”, “Last in Line”, “Rainbow in the Dark”, “Don't talk to Strangers”. Off course Dio also presented newer stuff like “Fever Dreams” and “Push”. His time in Rainbow were not surprisingly represented with “Long Live Rock 'N' Roll” and “Man on the Silver Mountain”. The Black Sabbath era was represented with “Mob Rules” and the alltime classic “Heaven and Hell”, which i still recons as one the best Heavy Metal tracks ever made.

The conclusion would have to be: It was a good concert which fully fullfilled people expectations to the band and Dio, even though the sound wasn't that good. But for a virgin in Dio Live it was a very good experience. I will go and see Dio live the next time they are in town.
