In March 2022 I was the premiere of the second album of GRAVE NOISE, thrashers from Spain. The band has two people with thesame surname – Sanz, the guitarists who also load the vocals. And of course it looks like they formed the band. But I know surely. And the other musicians are the next ones in the line-up. Though the drummer Fer also knocked in the first album. So the bassist Toño is the youngest.

The album “Roots Of Damnation” contains over 40-minute dose of contemporary Thrash Metal, in which you will hear both the classic Thrash Metal patents (fast, dynamic guitars with specific melodies and solos, strong drum’s beats and of course screaming vocals supported by screaming and sung backing vocals) but and in places the modernist arrangement solutions (usually guitar ones), not necessarily typical for Thrash Metal, but rather typical for Groove Metal, Metalcore or modern Death Metal. In addition, individual bass’s parts, clean guitars or even incidentally used keyboard’s melodies further emphasize the modernist approach to composing.

The vocals are very stylish, but also apart from their shouting, they introduce growling and screaming accents, sometimes mixing different sounds of vocals. There are also times when you will hear hoarsely singing phrases and even female singing in the background.

After all, it is still Thrash Metal – predatory, powerful, aggressive, screaming and specifically melodic. Yes, this is the kind of Thrash Metal that combines melody with the dynamics and aggression that United States thrashers choose it, especially from the Bay Area.

Besides, some themes are more simple, more direct, which is rather typical of Crossover or German Thrash Metal.

So GRAVE NOISE presents global Thrash Metal, which draws inspiration from both continents and additionally weaves elements of modern playing, typical for example for Metalcore.
