ELLIPSIS „From Beyond Thematics”

ELLIPSIS was born in 1996 and immediately started recording some material. ‘Comastory’, their debut album, was released in 2003, so a long time after the formation. But in 2004, when the band started working with a famous Norwegian producer Terje Refsnes, known from handling albums of such groups as TRISTANIA or MORGUL, a new concept was brought to life, and this is ‘From Beyond Thematics’.

The progressive rock from ELLIPSIS is a proposition which will interest only the most tenacious fans of such play. Sometimes sounding like DREAM THEATER, they simply waste their potential, focusing too much on vocal and trying to hide the power dreaming in metal. This material is just sung-too-much. The compositions are catchy, but they do not have the feature of staying in one’s head. The songs do not have any character, they just come and go, and make the listener anxiously awaiting to turn everything off and have a drink. More intensive listening is not recommended, as it might be very tiring.

All in all, the material is not bad – melodic and properly performed. But at the same time, deprived of any character and style, without power and originality, which could have saved it. It is simply too philosophic, with all that ‘blah-blah’ singing, putting the sound in a very distant background position.
