EX DEMENTIA – Interview with Chris

'Ex Dementia' is a young band, would you like to say something about your history?

Chris: We formed back in 2005, went through quite a few line up changes but we found we work best as a 3 piece band with Brandon (drums) and I (Guitar/Vocals) being the backbone. The bass player being expendable.

What kind of bands are inspirations for you?

Chris: I grew up mainly on punk and metal but have grown over the years to appreciate almost all genres of music. As far as metal inspirations go I'm into stuff like Carcass, Pungent Stench, Impetigo, Autopsy, Death, Megadeth, and Suicidal Tendencies and many many more…

In your music and artworks i see some inspirations by 80' horrors, it's a case or expedient procedure?

Chris: Our main inspiration for our songs is mainly horror films and concepts based on ideas inspired by horror films.

Your music isn't very original, are you have conception for bigger existence among other bands?

Chris: I just play in the band for fun. We play and write what i love which is thrashy death metal. I look at it as a hobby I do on my days off, get wasted off cheap booze and rock out with good friends. I think we pretty much found our sound during the 5 years of being a band which probably wont change anytime soon. If we wanted to make money off what were doing wed be playing another sub genre of metal or genre music.

Now many bands come with “spirit of time” but you still in 80', for that you have my appreciation )

Chris: Thanks man, as i said above we play what we love. where not here to cash in on any trends.

What plans for future?

Chris: We have been working for the past few months on material for our up and coming release “The Red Mass” which will include 9 original tracks, 1 cover (Venom Welcome to Hell), and will have guest vocal appearances many good friends including Ross (Impaled), Tim (Splatterhouse), Admiral Nobeard from (Swashbuckle) and Chris Reifert of (Autopsy/Abscess). To check for current updates on the upcoming release, check our website/message board.

As situation looks on today in group?

Chris: We have nothing bad to say about HPGD Productions, we are much happier with them then when we were on KVR. Our new bassist Joe who recently joined the band has been a great addition. we played a few shows with him and hes defiantly not going anywhere anytime soon.

When we can listen new CD?

Chris: We plan on hitting the studio to record this July and hope to have the album out by fall 2009 on HPGD Productions.

How are you make new songs? Everyone bring own ideas or somebody bring complete songs?

Chris: I wrote alot of the stuff for the first album at home as full songs and brought the riffs to the table at band practice. Our new writing tactic which worked great for our last release “In The Chapters of Horror” is boozing and just jamming out. Alot of times when i cant think of a riff Brandon will hum a tune and ill put it to guitar and we take it from there.

May we see you at concert on old continent?

Chris: Id like to tour more, but due to my busy work schedule its hard enough to just get a weekend off to play a show. But someday in the future we plan on playing more shows and maybe getting out of the states and possibly rocking Europe.

Thanks, the last word is yours

Chris: If you dug “In The Chapters Of Horror EP” Keep your eyes peeled for “The Red Mass”.
