DRAGONSFIRE – Interview with Jan Müller

A new band in heavy metal that beats the experiences of the reviewer. Finally something for our ears that you cannot put in a special drawer. This is the debut EP „Burning for metal“. Here you will be burnt by DRAGONSFIRE!

Hi Jan! Great that you bring a bit of time to do an interview. It´s been a few weeks now since you´ve released your EP „Burning for metal“. There I have to ask a few questions.

…let´s go!

First a few words about your history, please: Where are you from, who are you and how, where and when did the story around DRAGONSFIRE begin?

Dragonsfire has been in business for only one year now. The whole thing started by accident, actually. Had somebody told me two years ago that I will again play in a metal band in the year 2005, I would have been skeptic. Our singer is a new man in the band. The atmosphere just fits for 100 %. You can also see what you can reach within one year. We rehearse in Hessian Ried (in the middle of Germany) and most of the band members come from that area.

Where did you record „Burning for metal“? Who produced your album?

The recordings were done in the Kohlekellerstudio in Seeheim/Germany. We produced it by ourselves. That was really hard work. We spend a lot of time and nerves on it. Unbelievable. But it was worthwhile!

Who of you guys are responsible for the songwriting?

There everyone works together. Mostly someone has got an idea and that idea will be shown to all of the guys and then we do experiments… And sometimes somebody comes with a riff and another guy had lyrics. Yes, life can be so hard 😉 But that´s an exception. Finally, it all should fit together and mainly should please us.

How did it end up using „DRAGONSFIRE“ for your band name? Which meaning does it have?

There you can devise a really big story… „In the fires of the mountain of fortune…“ Oh shit, this already exists… 😉

We wanted to have a name that describes our music. Dragonsfire sounds like metal and that´s it.

Could you already get a name in your area?

Hm, that´s a good question, what´s a name? Like I already said, we have been in business for only one year now and we all have regular jobs except just doing promotion for Dragonsfire the whole day.

I will try it with facts. Well, in the end of our debut year we will have played 19 concerts. (This is a lot for a band that manages all by itself and that has only got one CD released.) Twice we played in the „world-famous“ Frankfurt „Batschkapp“and also the Darmstadt „Krone“ knows us. The concerts were well-attended. We had a few appointments with the radio, were in the studio for the „Burning for Metal“ EP, celebrated a big CD release party, have planned a festival for November and for 2006 we have the first acceptances. Everything´s set on fire here! 😉

What about the metal scene where you live? Do you have a lot of metalheads?

I really think that we have a lot of, but I somehow have the feeling that they prefer going to concerts where the pay 25 Euros for a ticket and drinking bad beer for 3,50 Euro. I don´t know what I should think about the meanwhile underground here. There are steadily changing ups and downs. There are no really good platforms in our region. You have to work by yourself or change to trendy music. And this is not the thing anybody wants to do 😉

What about concerts in the near future?

The most important concert for us will be November 25, 2005! There we have organized a metal festival in the Bessunger Knabenschule in Darmstadt. This festival is called „Burning for Metal Festival“. We will play with Chinchilla. We and two other bands will play, as well. Afterwards there will be a big after show party. That will be a blast!!!!!

Which are your influences? And which bands do you like privatly?

Our influences completely come from the fantasy metal styles. Blind Guardian and Iced Earth surely are the most prominent addresses. Privatly I really like all kinds of metal, the main point is that they are good! For example Edguy, Avantasia, old classics like Helloween, Metallica, Slayer, Pantera and Biohazard may not miss and car driving without Monster Magnet is impossible.

Your music is no black, no death, nor power metal… How would you describe your style?

For me, it´s just heavy metal! Nothing more. Of course, we have different tendencies to other styles in our songs, but heavy metal just fits best.

Why would you recommend your album to anyone?

This is an easy question. On „Burning for Metal“ you can find 5 really big titles. The songs were recorded in a very good studio with a very good production. We did everything with our heart and soul and our complete monay! We don´t wanna follow the mainstream or copy anything or anyone. AND we do not ripp someone off!!! The CD costs 6 Euros. We do not earn anything with that! We want the people to have fun with the CD, come to our concedrts and just have fun. Who thinks that 6 Euros are too much for a CD, has no idea and Up yours!

Which subjects does „Burning for metal“ include?

The name is program!

Most thing I like while listening to your songs are the various styles you play. Which is your favourite song?

I cannot find a simple answer here. I think, each song has got something special and has various atmospheres. If you want me to pick one out, I would say “Black Dragon”. I really like double bass drumming! 😉

How far do you wanna go with DRAGONSFIRE? Is DRAGONSFIRE a fun band or something serious?

We´ll go as far as they let us! We do not have a brake with Dragonsfire! We would love to play more concerts, a few festivals and play at every fair concert. If there are 50 or 50,000 people. We play with love and are NOT a fun band in any way, but we have a lot of fun in what we do!

Who was responsible for the cover artwork?

We formed the design for the complete CD. The main part goes to our bassist Thassilo. He surpassed everything! There everything just fits and everything is where it should be, if you believe it or not, it´s the things on it that should be there.

Is there a little chance to see you live on tour?

If you book Dragonsfire, then Dragonsfire will come! We would consider that in our calender. 🙂

The 5 track EP already could give us a sample of what your music is about. When will you release a full album?

At the moment, everything can happen. First we have to take a look at what´s going on with the „Burning for Metal“ EP. Then we will play a few concerts, and we have already been working on new songs. 24 hours isn´t enough! – But we would love to do it.

Your words for the metalheads.

First of all, thank you for reading until here. Do yourself and us a favour and buy „Burning for Metal“! That little money you cannot invest better! Have a look at our homepage and visit a concert! 🙂 We are Burning for Metal!
