Who plays the best melodic death metal in the world? Swedes? It seems that it is true, because they have the most powerful and developed death scene. The tradition is very long and rich and actually not a single place on the earth can be described in the same way. SATARIEL was formed in 1993 and since that time the gentlemen forming the group recorded a lot of death metal stuff. ‘Chifra’ is an EP being a kind of an prologue to their next album, ‘White Ink’ which will be released somewhere at the end of this year.

The short album of the Swedes contains four catchy compositions which do not represent the entire spectre of their abilities. First of all they serve us quite dynamic and catchy melodies supported by very simple riffs. It is not a sin, but I would expect more from somebody who exists on the scene for more than a decade. The songs are pretty coherent and the whole album gains the comprehensibility quality certificate. Everything works just fine, the heavy guitars maybe do not pulverise with power but make you want to hum the melody. Nicely supported by cool drum fills and two types of vocal. Pär Johansson does his best and his deathish growl sounds very extreme and sweet at the same time. Furthermore, the strong and clear vocal lines also contribute to the whole. Sometimes they are similar to those performed by Mathias Blad from FALCONER but it is not an accusation. Although Johanssons’s voice is much stronger and would make thousands of groupies shiver.

To sum it up, by buying ‘Chifra’ you will get an unpretentious dose of melodic metal music with death sparkles. Simple riffs and a huge dose of power, a lot of interesting melodies and a fantastic portion of singing. Moreover there are furious pace tracks (‘Chifra’) and almost romantic like motifs. All in all it is a good album, preparing the path for SATARIEL’S this year’s premiere. If the album is kept in the same convention it will not be a surprising release but it will consolidate the band’s position on the melodic metal scene and please a lot of metal heads all around the globe.
