KALMAH – Interview with band

Hello my friend. I am Andrew. How are you? How do you feel after the release of your new album?

Great! Thanks for asking. This time we managed to do an album that represents the Kalmah we want. The feedback has been great so far. Hopefully people will notice it as well and buy our record.

Tell me a few things about the recordings of the album. Where did you record it and who was the producer? Are you satisfied with the result or there is something you would like to change?

We recorded the album at Tico-Tico studios, Kemi, like the previous albums. We didn`t have any particular producer. Usually I`m in charge when it comes to producing but all in all the producing happens at rehearsal place with the whole band. Ahti, the recorder, has good ideas too and we try to use them as well.

The result is perfect, I think. I wouldn`t change anything from this album. Every song has its place and the album as a whole is the most satisfying we have ever made.

What does the front cover show? The colors are kind of dark and I can’t make it clear. I can see a warrior in the middle and some others around him. What is its relation with the music?

On the cover Swamplord is in his icy grave in frozen Finnish swamp with his demons. The cover represents an end to one period of the band. There is no actual relation with the music in detail. It reflects to the whole album.

Tell me a few things about the lyrics of the album. Where do you influence from when writing lyrics?

The main influence comes from the lives we are living. There is also some connections to the current state of the world politics and happenings.

Have you arranged any live shows or tour in order to promote your new material?

Actually no. We don`t have any booking agency, so, it is hard to start arranging the shows by ourselves. In Fall we are going to play some shows in Finland and hopefully we manage to get some kind of tour as well.

If you had the chance to play on the same stage with any band or artist you like, who would that be and why?

I believe it´s Megadeth. Megadeth has left the finger prints in our heads, though, it doesn`t jump up from our music. Megadeth was a bunch of great musicians and we have always admired the band, especially after Rust in Peace and Countdown to Extinction, so that would be awesome. There is also bunch of other great bands like Pantera, Dark Tranquillity to mention a few.

Why should someone prefer to buy your album than any other release of our days?

I think our album steps aside from the basic mainstream and it has the potential to turn every metal head. In case You doubt buy some other records to compare…

Name me some of the bands you like and some of the bands you have been influenced from

Old Megadeth, Pantera, Paradise Lost, Sepultura, Judas Priest, In Flames and Dark Tranquillity. With old I mean the albums they have made in the end of 80`s and the beginning of 90`s. There is also Death and many others.

Would you prefer to be a great band in the underground scene or just one average band in the mainstream scene?

…:-) Hopefully great band in the underground and great band above the mainstream!

What are your plans for the future?

I hope we manage to do as many albums more and spread our music all over the world. Hopefully we can tour some day as well.

So, we are approaching the end. I want to thank you for your time and wish you good luck for the future. Closing is yours…

Thanks! Hopefully there will be some cloudberries to pick this summer!!!
