DEEP ODIUM – Interview with Perverter

Another Portuguese band on the loose…almost there to conquer the world of metal and our disposition. Deep Odium, band coming from Portugal…this land will soon be the other shelter of metal like Sweden…it's a fresh new cool land.

Deep Odium death metal band, with it's own unique style and taste for music with a special insight for what's around them.

Perverter, the vocals, gave us the chance to get inside the band's mind and soul.

Talk to us about the way your band started. Who formed the band?

The band was formed back in 1999 on a winters fucking day in a casual meeting between Abhor and me. He invited me to form a band to try to exorcise our fucking ghosts and here we are. Also from the initial formation still resists the drummer Angel Corpse and we embraced in our trenches Malum Sepulcri and Deamoniorum, both from Mortualium (PT).

I heard that the members of the band got side-projects. Can you mention few?

Well, at this time we all stopped our projects as we needed to concentrate in our main project, Deep Odium. The only one's that sometimes still rehearse are our two guitar players in association with the drummer from Fungus (PT) in an extreme project in the way of Dark Funeral.

You have changed your line up more than once, did that affected your style in anyway?

Yes it did. From the first horde, as I said before, the band only kept is backbone: I, Abhor (guitar) and Angel Corpse (drummer). We have involved from a sound extremely rich in keyboards in the way of Cradle of filth and Dimmu Borgir to a now more extreme sound with different mixtures between death, black, thrash and doom.

Have you performed outside Portugal?

Not yet, we had a small tour being prepared for Netherlands and France but it didn't went trough that time and now we have no hurry on that happening as we are working to settle a record deal with a good label before adventuring ourselves abroad.

If there would be only one band to open up to, who would you choose?

For me it would be f***ing Cristina Aguilera, what a gig it would be (laugh)… no, off course we would like to open up to a good band… for me I should say it would be Mayhem or Marduk, I can not choose.

You said on your official site something about a new record, tell us about it…

Its postponed for now. The idea was recording two songs to make a special release in vinyl with hand-numbered copies but it's still in our plans but not for now has we prefer to work in new songs for a whole album.

Do you think that the net helped to spread the word about you?

Yes, look at us now giving an interview to you and to all Egypt and Worldwide metal fans all around. This is only possible due to the internet. And by now our main contacts are done by internet besides some fanzines and metal magazines from Portugal, so it is really important for us and to any band that what's to step out from their corner.

Any band or idol you are looking up to?

I have my own influences off course (from Metallica, Iron Maiden, Cradle and Dimmu in the early day's to Marduk, Mayhem, Cannibal Corpse and more by now) but no special madness for any band or idol. I listen and appreciate their work but not being obsessed with their style or way's of doing things. The only idol I truly have by now his Perverter from Deep odium… (Laugh)

What are the bands best concerts so far?

Well, the best so far was the VIII Barroselas Metalfest in the North of Portugal where we played with such great bands as PARRICIDE (PL), SQUASH BOWELS (PL), IN THA UMBRA (PT), FUNERUS (US), CORPUS CHRISTII (PT), JUNGLE ROT (US), and CATASTROPHIC (US). Your favourite Deep Odium Lyrics/song?

I hate them all; please don't make me choose between our devilish sons… (laugh)

(Laugh) How do you explain the dark melodic nature of your lyrics?

It's the way I feel at the time I write. when I listen to the instrumental I can't stop my thoughts from flowing and it comes out this way and I think it should always be that way for a truly understanding of the complete feelings of a band when they compose

When are we going to see a new full-length CD for Deep Odium?

Soon…

What are Deep Odium dreams?

To be able to live from our passion without worrying with the lack of material, conditions of the places we play in, enough time to rehearse, recordings and so on so on..

Do you feel satisfied so far by what you have achieved?

Yes, why not? We are playing and having fun drinking, smoking some illegal stuff and going fucking crazy on stage, all this with the support and companionship of our metal fans so we consider ourselves satisfied. However, this doesnt mean that we do not want more for we lust for everything that this World as to offer us and everything that we think we are entitled to!

Deep odium plans for the future?

Do things better, play harder, record some brutal albums and enjoy with you the pleasures of metal!!!
