Tyrant from a foreign land – 2005

Offspring bands come from everywhere… You already know that really good stuff comes from South America. A new hope in the power metal area are here BLACK SUN from Equador. They orientate themselves on Helloween, Metallica, Hammerfall and Megadeth.

The band (singer Chemel Neme, the guitar duo Christopher Gruenberg/Juan Miguel Iturralde, bassist Luis Fernando Fabara and drummer Nicolas Estrada) was already founded in 1999 and they let time passing by to let mature it. So the debut album „Tyrant from a foreign land“ was born in the year 2005.

This music is definitely power metal. BLACK SUN do not define that genre newly. But the songs live from the well filed riffing.

The intro is promising, tries to create excitement, and it works.

The song that follows called „Tyrants from a foreign land“ immediately reminds me on old Nocturnal Rites and could originally derive from the 90´s era. Cool!

„Just like fire“ shows the typical catchy song character that should be found on every album, I think. 

With „Pain has to wait“, a heart-breaking ballad starts.

It seems that BLACK SUN want to balance their heart pain song and so they send „Metal madness“ to the listener with its guitar focussed riffing that starts with a stylish ringtone in shape of the guitar riff. Great idea!

„Suenos“ is a fast song in the native language of the band.

To die away, BLACK SUN put a song called with „Orgasmic fantasia of lies“, acoustic, with flutes and woman vocals…

BLACK SUN bribe with their uncomplexity, with which they play their music. The balance between aggression and melody work for that band.

10 songs with a running time of around 40 minutes and a good production, the South Americans boys refine our ears.

A little minus point I have to give to singer Chemel Neme: The voice could have more power and expression. But why thinking bad about that? It is the first album of the 5 guys and so they have a lot of development chances…

Result: Really well-engineered for a debut album!! This album is definitely qualified for power metal fans!
