Dead Mountain Mouth is one man project from France, created by vocalist and multiinstrumentalist Lundi Galilao. He strated writing music for this band in 2008, and for this day he released one demo and two long play albums. French metal artists always makes very original and unique sound like: southern black metallers – Glorior Belli or Blut Aus Nord. Crystalline is the best example of this.
First, and much important thing is that all instrument work, production and music was done by one man. Mr. Lundi Galilao made really creative and original sound on this album. Basically we are dealing with dense arrangment art form progressive and avant-garde metal music which contains elements from black and death metal madness and lots of psychedelic and even industrial things. Music sounds very dark, brutal and spatially. We can find few different guitar riffs, many changes of tempo and climax. From the first side I hear lots inspirations from norwegian black metal scene, some french metal influences like for example: Deathspell Omega and from the second side music is charged by heavy psychedelic and industrial things made by bands like: Oranssi Pazuzu. Everything sounds original, creative, despite the bands I mentioned. Vocals on Crystalline are diverse from brutal growls, between typical black metal hellish screams to clear, atmospheric parts. Sometimes Dead Mountain Mouth sounds a bit pathetic, but in this wall of lots mixed genres music is getting more fun and curiously. Some parts remind me of Voivod style, especially trashy, cosmic riffs and alienated voices. Crystalline has much to offer, experienced listener can find many planes do discover, even a little bit of folk influences and great solo parts. This music is cold, mechanical, brutal and totally unreal. Metal art like this, inspired by psychedelia put this genre to endless impressions without any barriers.
Summarizing, Mr. Lundi Galilao from Dead Mountain Mouth process fucking great piece of art, proving us that in today times, musicians can do a lot of good things in music without any support and promotions from big labels or radio and newspapers. Few artist act comes from underground, and their stuff are really much better than average bands from the top of the music business.
