FLOWER KINGS, THE „Unfold the Future”

This band never seems to cease to amaze me. These Swedes release a record nearly every year and they are rather lengthy. They can be up to 80 minutes long or be a double CD which is longer. The crazy thing too is that each release is still very good with their brand of quirky 70's trippy Prog along with some fantastic musicianship.

The action doesn't stop here. They do it again with this double disc. Just like all their other CD's in their catalogue, it's very laid back and very intriguing. The opener “The Truth Will Set You Free” is a grand opening if I ever did hear one clocking in at 30 minutes. I will admit that the song will drag a bit here and there, but there is enough action going on along with nice atmosphere to pick up the slack. “Black And White” should be a drummers favourite. The song for one thing is more spiced up and the drumming from the new guy, Zoltan replaces Jamie Salazar and is just amazing. Very spaced out tune here folks.

By the way, did I tell you that this was only disc one? Disc two is more up beat and less laid back. While they are a band that never get like DREAM THEATER or PAIN OF SALVATION, they do still rock! “Genie In A Bottle” will show just that. Speaking of PAIN OF SALVATION, lead vocalist Daniel Gildenlöw makes a guest appearance on disc two. If you know who the band is and who he is, you will hear that he has an amazing voice. Very passionate and emotional is what you get from him and nothing less. The man can move mountains with his unique voice. When you hear him on the CD, you will know it. “The Devils Danceschool” is real space Jazz/Fusion session that will make you drool if you are a fan of free form and talent.

THE FLOWER KINGS is a release that won't be for everyone. If you are looking for really aggressive music playing, keep walking. If you are in a mellow mood and would just like to relax and enjoy some really good music, you need not look further.
