The band’s difficult beginnings started in 1993 as Wes, the one and only member, who is still in the group wanted to form a group. After many difficulties, being kicked by the security guards, he managed to give his demo tape to Fred Durst, and that is how the career of his band started. At the beginning, the line up was completely different, as the band split up after no signs of interest from labels and studios. Fred helped Wes to find some new crew and thanks to him, PUDDLE OF MUD finally gained momentum. ‘Famous’ is their last release.

And this time the band is showing us their smoother and more ‘subtle’ face. Their past releases were of a quite rebellious hard rock character. But times have changed and the audience as well, hence the music also had to change. The first sounds reassure that this definitely is POM: quite noisy, with some teenage-rebel character. But later on, the content is getting weaker and weaker. The guitars slow down and their sound becomes soft. ‘Psycho’ and ‘Thinking About You’ are the worst tracks on this album, they are similar to the BON JOVI stuff, so quite pop and shapeless pulp. With emotional background, which makes those songs pathetic. Most of the sounds get on nerve and almost reached the very bottom of… the bottom. There is an impression, that POM were trying to find a golden middle to please the fans of FRANZ FERDINAND, ARCTIC MONKEYS or 30 SECONDS TO MARS. From this melting pot appeared something pretty much shapeless, but with a chance to at least achieve a commercial success. Especially among the youngest rebels, as they need to have simple music as a background for their ‘noble’ interests. who are the people, who are building their musical tastes. And POM will help them to do it, because their music is very universal, catchy and anyone can easily hum those sweet melodies.

PUDDLE OF MUD prepared an album situated in the middle of… nowhere. They are shifting between styles, but they are also doing it well. With huge attention to technical details, and rock standards.
