ROOTWATER came to being at the beginning of 2002, mainly thanks to Sebastian, Yonca and Pablo (the latter ones are no longer in the group, as they left as the beginning of 2004, after the release of the first single Hava Nagila). Since that time, the band recorded four albums, including two full-length releases. The band is also associated with the computer game THE WITCHER, of which OST contains ROOTWATERs track – Born Again.
What strikes the sense first, is the lazy power enclosed in this long play – a very noble power, full of dignity and modesty. The compositions are very characteristic, they can be of medium pace, fast or really slow, but one feature is present in all those styles, and that is the obese force very heavy and lazy one, simply crawling from the speakers. It is like a cruiser-tank, which simply crushes everything on its way. On the other hand, there content is very unstable, it means that the songs can be fantastic, and awful at the same time. Most of the tracks sound the same, which makes this album a bit boring, the pseudo-ethnic infixes or marvelous Hava Nagila really drag this album from the abyss of laziness. But still, the rest of the compositions do not differ much, and they create a feeling of listening to only one track, sometimes played faster, sometimes slower. All those features allow to listen carefully to the songs and notice, that the band did their best to give into the fans hands a totally and carefully prepared material, of high technical value. That earns them a big plus.
ROOTWATER recorded quite a good album, with some progressive elements, including ethnic stuff, which seem to be the best parts of this record. The well prepared rhythmical and melodic sections are still not enough, as the compositions do not vary much, which shows, that the albums content limps.
