Cool Songs: May the Holocaust Appease Thy God, Esse Dyaboli et Infecta et Inficiencia Animas, Nuclearfrost Strike Part II
The very second Universal Hate Decades Ultimatum begins a machine-gun volley of riffs and blast beats assault the listeners eardrums. The fuzzy, hyper blast style of black metal this French group plays on the beginning track May the Holocaust Appease Thy God instantly brings to mind now-defunct warriors of the frozen north, IMMORTAL. The vocals are the major contrast, though. The vocalist sings a guttural death vocal style similar to old school black metal heathens, BEHERIT.
This albums music follows a consistent path of blasting, satanic war metal for four songs. The fourth track, Esse Dyaboli et Infecta et Inficiencia Animas has undulating, storming battle ship guitar rhythms and Viking-era BATHORY choral parts. This track really shows the bands diversity, alternating between the slower, viking parts and the blurry riffing black metal explosions. The vocalist also lets loose a couple of hair-raising screams in the vein of THE CHASMs Daniel Corchado. Excellent shit.
VOCIFERIAN is not finished with their bag of musical tricks, though. The title track is consistent with the albums martial theme in its presentation of the sounds of war through various electronic means. This track shows the groups affinity for not only war metal but also harsh noise. The loud noises are like mortar shells being fired off, one-by-one. Harsh noise like this is fun for a few minutes, but after fifteen it gets old, thus being the major fault of this release. The first four tracks, the meat of the album, are less than fifteen-minutes-long, while the repetitious noise outro clocks in at over sixteen minutes in length. So if youre burning this one, leave out the last track, which will give you sixty-five more minutes to fill your disc up with other great war lusting bands like BESTIAL WARLUST, WAR, and IN BATTLE.
