AEON „Bleeding the False”

More quality death metal assured with this latest Unique Leader release. This is apparently not Aeon’s first release as they were previously signed to Necropolis records but the music on this CD sounds to me as they have made a fresh start as this is some vicious stuff.

The first thing that hit me is the vocals. They are not your usual death grunt, but have a drier sound and work particularly well when they are multi layered – giving the lyrics a real sense of evil. Some of the vocal delivery can be compared to Deicide as you get the impression that the vocalist definitely means what he is spitting out.

Thankfully, the rest of the band are as vitriolic as the vocalist and produce some excellent music. Particular favourites at this time are “Soulburner” and “morbid desire to burn”. The guitar sound is very clear thanks to a solid, but not muddy production and the drumming is brutal throughout with a nice snare sound. A lot of bands go for the low end sound in the hope that it will make their material sound heavier, but Aeon have achieved this simply by creating menacing songs.

The pace of songs on the albums greatly, with all of them having the desired impact, however personally I prefer the slower ones.

So, not your typical death metal album thanks to the variety of songs and speeds on offer, but one I would recommend to anybody who already has a few Unique Leader releases in their collection if only for the fantastic acoustic version of “God gives head in heaven”. Quietly brilliant.
