IMBRUE „Hybris”

IMBRUE „Hybris” - okładka

I tried at least 6 time to like the latest release from IMBRUE, but there was no chance of that happening. I have heard a lot of bands that strike a nerve when I hear them for the first time, but this one hit a nerve that wanted the Cd stop immediately. Thank god the Cd only had 4 tracks on it, because my ears could not take too much more. I remember as a kid, my one brother got a drum set for Christmas. The heads on it were paper and we beat the hell out them. The drums on this Cd sound just like those drums. Actually maybe tin cans fit the sound better. The drummer isn't all that good either. If you are a blast-beat fan you might find yourself asking, “What the hell is that” throughout the Cd. I will give him some credit, he does have some impressive fills and rolls, but he needs more work on his beats and time-changes. The vocals are muffled and deep and sound like the vocalist has the mike shoved inside his mouth and trying to growl. They sound horrible. Almost like he is trying to clear his throat of a bug he might have swallowed. The guitarist have do some cool riffs, but the little high pitched fill's destroys the song as their used in almost all 4 tracks. Maybe that is their trademark, but it did nothing but irritate me.

The solos are taintie sounded and the squeals high pitched and if your wearing head phone, you will probably jump in displeasure when you hear them. I did however find myself impressed by the bass work. There are some bass runs in the Cd that made me want to hear more. It sounded like the Bass was leading everyone throughout the 4 tracks and everyone else was trying to catch up to him.

I hate having to give a review on a band that does nothing for me, but there might be some of you that might like this release. Who knows, I might put it in someday and find that I like it after all. Only time will tell. I just think at this point in time IMBRUE have a lot of work to do. Good Luck!
