Once again, our west neighbors recorded a beautiful album. This time Freedom Call did it (Gamma Ray's Dan Zimmerman on the drums). Now I'm not surprised why Hammer Fall took this band on their tour. “Crystal Empire” is an album with 11 classic heavy metal songs. At first their songs don't seem to be different from other bands songs, just typical heavy metal. But their songs have something that makes you listen to the cd all the time. All songs vary in style, from very fast, “Freedom Call”, thru the epic “Pharao”, to the really heavy “The Quest” (Pieta Sielcka and Kaia Hansena also helped out).
When listening to this album, you're able to hear that Chris Bay is a great vocalist and also a very good guitar player. He proves it on some of the songs, “Ocean” is one of those songs, and it is also one of my favorite songs on the album. If you were to choose a favorite song on the album, you would have a hard time doing it. The last song on Crystal Empire is “The Wanderer”, in my opinion it's a very good song to end the album.
