EDGUY „Mandrake”

EDGUY „Mandrake” - okładka

Will these german guys ever stop amazing us?, I hope not, with their fifth album they show enough maturity to become one of the main bands in the overpopulated german metal scene.
From the opening notes of “Tears of a Mandrake” you can say that this is pure Edguy sound, so how come I´m so excited about this one? Well if you asked me wich one is the best Edguy album ever I´d tell you “Mandrake”, and the metalheads who know the band know as well that surpassing “Theater of Salvation” is no easy task.

With “Golden Dawn” the second track on the CD, things start to get faster, the double-bass beats are present in almost the hole song, this one as the first is a winner, Jerusalem is also a good sounding tune although not so impressive. And here comes my favourite tune from the album “All the Clowns”… wait a second, a song about clowns? Yes and a Hell of a song by the way! I think it represents everything Edguy is: blastering double-bass, high pitched vocals, majestic choruses, man.. what else can you ask from one of the top “new” power metal acts in the world.

Once again they succed in a field where many of the bands in the genre fail: Ballads, with “Wash Away the Poison” they show the great touch they have for these kind of songs, the single “Painting on the Wall” is a good song with some excellent riffs and the Bounus Track “The Devil and the Savant” is also a high point and an excellent choice to close the album.

Good Production, loud but clear vocals, incredible guitar work and an unexpected depth in the lyrics make this one a muss have for all of the power metal fans.
