STURM – Interview with Thomas

If one has read the review of STURM, he possibly wonders what made me do the interview. The answer is quite simple – I don't know! It's possible I've heard a voice inside me telling me to go and speak with Thomas. The second possibility is that their music – though boring – made me feel nice and since I had a lot of high voltage in the bottle… I regret that we'be been both drunk and the interview turned out like that. After all I'm intrigued by the band for I ask myself: is their latest release the best they can do or just a joke entitled “Fragmente”?
Hi Thomas! When was the last time You were interviewed for a polish magazine? Or maybe here in Poland people are not willing to present STRUM in their zines?

Hi! No, it was our first interview in Poland.

Sometimes I ask quite stupid questions. That's one of them: did Your parents meant the unfaithful Thomas when they were giving You the name?

I hope so.

Or maybe they wanted You to be as great as the one who invented light bulbs?

HAHA! No, I know they want a daughter, sorry but I have a long dig.

Or maybe they meant mr. Mann or any other…

I don't know I am so drunken HÄHÄHÄ

I'm reading Your bio right now and I must say it doesn't reveal much. Don't You think it may do no good for the promotion of the band?

We don't say so much, cause we let the music speak.

On the other hand the band becomes enigmatic. Somebody who has never heard about Your band is going to start searching for it.

They can look on our site www.sturm-jdfb.de, so they find all over our fuckin band.

Though when I look at this I guess that things were going smoothly for You up to now. No problems. The debut “Flut” in 1998 and right after that You signed with Godz Greed in 1999!

Yes the first years are very good, but after the deal with Godz Greed it was chaotic. The first Label (Godz Greed) was the best but the GEMA hate them (fuckin GEMA) so the Label go bankruptcy. The second Label (I 'forgot' the name) was a incompetent bunch. The third Label in 2 years (S.O.D.) released our CD in April and they do our best for us to get Interviews and gigs to promote the CD. We hope that we can do another CD next year.

The result is „Krakatoa” CD. Maybe none of those companies was a giant one but it's still something, isn't it?

Its cool to work with small label they do our for the bands and our music ws not so good to go to Sony.

I'm puzzled by the musical style You prefer: „Nordische Härte” Could You please explain what it is all about?

Its hard german music with all different styles we like.

You launched STRUM with Gregor in 1996, so it's been over seven years of playing together. I'm interested if You had any bands before STURM.

We are playing in some local bands before. You don't know this bands called “Psyron”, “Border Line”, “Satans Blood” and “The Hoshis”.

Your vocal lines are awfully fucked up. Your whole music is fucked up. All in the same tempo…

We all fucked up.

Frankly speaking I wonder what kind of food You eat. Nobody sane does that kind of music! I have a buddy who smokes grass and keeps talking thrash…

Fuckin Fast Food and Jack Daniels for the evening…..

Sometimes I freak out, but is it better to live a regular life or a little paranoid one?

AAARRRGGGHHHH a little paranoid is good. HÄHÄH.

You are now signed with Source Of Deluge. How many albums are You supposed to record due to the contract?

We have a deal for one album and an option, but we don't know what we wan't to do.

Anyway, how did You get to sign with this label? As far as I know the man who's behind it plays completely different kind of music that You do.

He love us, he want us and he get us for a fuckin good time.

Of course it often happens that somebody releases something completely different to what he prefers.

Yes and its good for us and all underground bands.

It's time to end this interview (it's all because of Your biography…). I hope You don't mind…

No problem it was a pleasure for me. I hope we drink in the future a lots of beer together!
