ROADKILL – Interview answered by Gary

Hi Gary! How are you ?

I'm really fine Marie, thanx a lot!!

The first I was thinking when I asked Roadkill about this interview, was how nice you guys are! Anyway, personally I've never heard about your band before. So, please start to tell us when Roadkill started ? Tell us the most important stuff! I only know about this demo “Pyramid”, please continue!

We started out playing rockcovers about 8 years ago. After a while we started doing our own thing and one thing led to another. We basically only do our own songs now when we play live. Yeah, “Pyramid” is a little jewel that got us little more known around the world.

Describe your music I've heard heavy fast Heavy Metal, do you agree ?

Yes, Roadkill is pure heavy metal, most of the songs are mid-tempo, but we do have a few fast and slower ones also. The most important thing is that we play metal without trying hard to be really original.

So, how has the response been for this “Pyramid” demo ? I haven't heard any negative response.

The response for “Pyramid” has been totally overwhelming. We've gotten great reviews from all over the world. We've been broadcasted in several countries, numerous interviews. Some of these publications can be found on our website www.roadkill.nl It looks like the world is waiting for our full lenght album. We're planning on recording it somewhere next year.

Who write lyrics and music ?

Lyrics are written by me or Marco, our singer and most of the music we create together from bits and pieces that we individually make up…

What about rehearsals then ? Here in Sweden it's very difficult to get a local andso on for many bands that really need one. How is it with Roadkill ? I mean, does Roadkill have a local or where are you guys when you rehearse ?

Yeah, we have a rehearsal studio that we rent and we get together every sunday and play for about 5 hours. Sometimes we have another rehearsal during the week when something important comes up that we have to practise for.

Any side projects besides Roadkill ?

Marco just finished singing three tracks on a soloproject of a friend of his. I've been asked to play in several bands but we've been to busy with Roadkill to even consider that. I also beleive that is better to just focus one one band and really put everything in that band that you can offer!!

What about live gigs then ? Has it been a lot or what ? Describe a live show with Roadkill !

We play live as often as possible. Because of my work, I'm gone during the weekend a lot but every weekend that I'm off, we play with Roadkill. Roadkill has a credo…see-hear-beleive and that is the truth. We have a very dynamic show. Not just the music sounds awesome we also have an asskicking show with light effects, audience participation and even pyro's.

Has any record labels heard your music ? Which labels ? I mean they should be very interested about Roadkill in my opinion!

Thanx for the compliment, Marie!! We haven't sent our album to any labels cause I don't think the time is right yet. We want to show the world what we can do by ourselves without the support of a label…and we will…next year!!!

How does the future looks like for Roadkill ?

The future looks really bright because we really go for it, we were born to bang our heads!!!

What do you self listen on ?

I'm a big fan of Manowar, Dream Theater, Reptillian and right now I'm totally into Avantasia. It's just to much to name all the bands that I adore!!

How would your dreamteam look like ?

Roadkill is my dreamteam, I love playing with those guys, they are all amazing musicians aswell as great friends, what else could I wish for??

At last, I have to ask you if it's true that all the drummers in a band really are that funny and so on ? I always hear that everywhere ! So, what's your opinion Gary ? By the way, for how long time has you been a drummer ?

I've been playing the drums about 18 years now. I guess the loud noise is the thing that makes a drummer a little “different”. Some people think it's funny, others just think it's annoying. Personally, I think of my self an incredible funny guy. (maybe that is what make me annoying!!)

Please, finish with some message for all Roadkill fans!

Marie, I wanted to thank you for these great questions and to everybody out there… Keep us in mind we hope to come to your town someday and if you ever have the chance… come check us out. Until that time, stay posted via our site www.roadkill.nl Download some of our tunes and write in our guestbook what you think!! Rock hard and stay heavy!!! The more it stays the same, the less it changes.
