It is very difficult to find any information about HELEVEN on the Internet. The band was founded in 2016 in Granada, Spanish city with a rich history and numerous monuments.
In 2019, the debut album of the Spaniards was released. The latest album “Into the Oceans” has a few very negative reviews in Polish music portals devoted to brutal and underground metal music.
My evaluation is different. HELEVEN’s work is not death or black metal or any other thrash, but it is in own style, a very decent music We are dealing with the genre of “contemporary metal”, which is often released by Art Gates Records. It is modern hard rock / metal. The basis of the composition of the Grenada band is a great playing of the rhythm section. The drummer is very strong, the bass is exposed, vibrating, accented.
In the tracks often were use the patent of interlacing of dynamic, aggressive fragments (fast, pulsating or rhythmic, sublime) with gentler, sometimes romantic, and sometimes more melancholic, mysterious themes. Usually the drama gradually builds up in tracks. On the whe whole album was use electronics sparingly, but very accurately. There are a lot of short, atmospheric intros, outros and insertions.
The song “The Wings I Need to Fly” is a very successful, classic rock ballad with the use of the acoustic guitar. The short track “Rise Again” can be considered an extensive, mysterious intro.
There aren’t many guitar solos on the album, and they’re usually short-lived. The vocalist sings cleanly, well suited to both intense and calm parts.
The music is powerful and has various moods – violent, mysterious, ballad-like, romantic. It has emotional depth, but no extreme emotions – the members of HELEVEN are balanced. Everything that I wrote above may alienate the fans of predatory death metal. To be honest, I am also not a fan of contemporary metal music, but in my opinion this album has strength, honesty, commitment, professional technique – it is excellent.
