Going into 2019 people had a lot of expectations regarding the enrichment of modern metal. Before we go any further, it’s important to clarify that while I say “Modern Metal”, I refer to newer bands, not the umbrella term used by many to label any band that uses electronic background. Ironically, the band that I will be discussing today use electronic influences but I prefer labeling them by the genre they belong not with the aforementioned umbrella term.

Progressive Metalcore quartet, Dig Two Graves will be the topic for discussion today as the band has really outdone themselves on their very first release. It is obvious for newer bands to experiment with their sound but what Dig Two Graves did with their experimentation is very much different from any debut bands as they took elements of many genres and clustered them to form a unique sound which serves as a sonic treat for the listeners.

Based out of New Jersey, the band show strong Progressive Metalcore vibes with a little room left for experimentation. The vocalist, however, has done a great job keeping everything in place without damaging the instrumentation. The only disappointment is that the album only consists of 6 tracks with the title track, “Deathwish” being the highlight.

The good thing about this album is that unlike most of the Progressive Metalcore acts, Dig Two Graves strayed themselves from the generic breakdown centric tone but chose a bit more matured route instead. There is a proper balance between the melody and angst, which is quite uncommon these days considering the fact that bands prefer taking the melody as their upper hand.

That being said, Dig Two Graves are easily one among those bands whom I see achieve bigger things in the near future. Being sonically similar to the likes of Born of Osiris and Veil of Maya, I won’t be surprised if this New Jersey Quartet get a chance to warm the stage for these Prog Metalcore giants!
