The Russian GRENOUER should celebrate the twentieth anniversary in this year! During all time of their existence they released 6 albums and more demos, EPs, splits. During that time their music has evolved from Thrash / Death Metal till Industrial and Rock. I would have never heard of them if not the courtesy of the Italian label Alkemist Fanatic Europe, which took in promoting their latest album “lifelong Days”… And so thanks to it I had a chance to hear this band …
GRENOUER is the nice treat for fans of industrial-progressive sounds in the Mathcore's setting. “Lifelong Days” is the powerful wall of sound – tightly tense, very heavy, with the low-tuned guitars and the variable rhythms as well as saturated by the aggressive shouts or the low dose of electronics. The songs are very emotional … Here, anger and aggression are intertwined with sadness between the with the crushing cacophony and vocal melodies. The compositions are highly variable, unexpected, devastating, with complex rhythms. In each of the songs there are the many vocal-rhythmic-thematic motives, which makes the music as very dense. The appearing sound of vocal strongly affects the atmosphere. The sharp screams underline the aggressiveness, and the lines of sung underline the deep melancholia (especially the vocals were passed through a v-coder, which simulated a robot's voice). Besides, I really like this unconventional approach to the pace.
In the works “Lifelong Days” can be found the few associations. These are mostly links with MESHUGGAH, sometimes with bands in style KORN and CYNIC or VOIVOD. So GRENOUER is a powerful explosive mixture, and certainly is the future of extreme music.
