Someone said recently, that the next wave of Black Metal has come. Really, various albums of Black Metal have come to me from several months. And here is Norwegian ARVAS which is released by Polish label – Odium Records
The fifteen years ago someone would qualify the band as “true”, because this Norwegian diabolical duet ARVAS (existed from 1993 years) is pure Black Metal band – blasphemous, mad, satanic and somewhat primitive moreover, uncompromising and sometimes without musical imagination I think so, because the frequent ultra-quick blasts with angry scream doesn't make an impression for me I like the classic of Black Metal, to which I come back willingly but ARVAS duplicates this what was played already and they present the motifs of old school, connecting fury of Black Metal with rhythm of Thrash Metal/Punk Rock. But it sometimes sounds even nice and it stimulates firmly. I am sure that many orthodox fanatics of Black Metal will be delighted by the album. Here is all which they love – quick and sharp riffs, blasts and ill-boding screams – potential worship for BURZUM, MAYHEM and DARKTHRONE – simply the true Evil!… But the groans, coronaches, the recitations full of horrors and sharp solos also appeared on the end of album, bringing in the melody, a little melancholy as well as obsession. This is like the music would undergo a small metamorphosis – surely for better. However it is too little for me. I wait for something more, some own creative inventiveness.
If I would listen this album on the beginning of 90 years then I would love this music, particularly for these slower tacts and more climatic guitar's phrases with ill-boding vocal's subjects. In total , for people hungry of furies and darkness – ARVAS will be even good material.
