“Videothrash” of PIATEK XIII is the seventh release of label Let Them Come Productions, and is the second album of Czech metalfuns. Them the debut material also appeared under the sign of Let Them Come Productions. However the English lyrics (although not everywhere) reigned in “Videothrash”.

The title of album and the cover-art called out one association. And after the reading of the titles of songs there are not doubts – PATEK XIII takes inspirations from classic horrors… The cover-art called out remembrance from my childhood – the posters on a wall and the VHS cassette with horrors… These were times! When after school lessons we watched the movies holding in breath in breasts… But is such the music also?

Obviously PATEK XIII plays Thrash Metal in old school style, like from the breakthrough of 80/90 years (but the band came into being in 2006 year). Even the instruments sound reminds the sound from past years. The first half of the album was very classic – the dynamic, complex rhythmically heavy hits in Thrash style with hoarse vocal as well as with specific Thrash Metal melody with clear bass guitar in average paces.

However in the second half the female vocals appeared and they softened this roughness of Thrash as well as the backing singers and balladic motifs appeared there and here. Moreover the insertions of well-known movies appeared among the tracks and this additionally called out the remembrance from times when an intro began almost every metal album. The last tracks brought the interesting surprise… the varied metal styles with multicoloured vocals (of invited guests) – Heavy Metal, Death Metal, Black Metal and of course Thrash Metal with Gothic climate. The mysterious bonus song in funny Hardcore of style crowned the album.

“Videothrash” sounded pretty predatory and dark. There also were the melodic and climatic moments. Despite interesting arrangements I felt the lack of musical depth here.
