GOTHKILL is the story of one-time inquisitor Nick Dread (Flambeaux) and his quest to slay 100,000 people, which will insure him a kingdom in Hell. His quest for infernal dominion takes centuries, but he makes his one hundred thousandth killing in modern day New York City. However, Satan does not live up to his end of the bargain, condemning Dread to an entirety of black solitude. Dread finds his way back to Earth, though, when a group of Goths and vampire poseurs called the Scorpions come conjure him from hell with his own book of spells.

JJ Connelly’s GOTHKILL reminds me of a Tromaville film without the zany humor. It’s cheaply made and contains poor acting, but offers buckets of blood, gratuitous violence and boobs galore, which one would expect of a B-grade horror film. The writers tried to create a strong storyline though the use of flashbacks and keeping the plot line from stagnating. While the storyline works to an extent, the flashbacks awkwardly tell of Dreads horrific history.

GOTHKILL will never be an Academy Award nominee, but it has a few excellent kill scenes. One scene shows a Scorpion get his penis chopped off. Although it doesn’t show the actual severing of his member, he sprays his cohorts with blood like an out of control fire hose. Another scene depicts Dread driving his knife through the base of a Scorpion’s neck out through his mouth.

Although GOTHKILL does not offer a riveting screenplay or top notch acting, it brings maximum violence and nudity. The movie’s authors also deserve credit for aptly portraying goth culture, as does the film’s score. I didn’t recognize any of the bands involved, but they all fit well. Perhaps the biggest disappointment in this film, though, was the hype over Mistress Julia’s (Fuse’s Uranium) appearance, which was barely noticeable. If leather fetish, Rockabilly-type devils and B horror is your thing, watch GOTHKILL.
