Protest in Bankok Airport Delays AS I LAY DYING

San Diego, CA’s AS I LAY DYING were recently stuck in Bangkok while trying to get to two shows scheduled for the 27th in Indonesia and 29th in Thailand due to the political protests led by the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD); a movement against the government which is supported mainly by middle and upper-class Thai citizens. The flight AS I LAY DYING was on was one of the last flights to arrive in Bangkok before the airport was shut down. At first AS I LAY DYING thought there might be a pop-star or celebrity in the airport as so many people were making what sounded like a cheering noise, but then they realized there was a mass protest taking place. AS I LAY DYING was only supposed to be in Bangkok long enough to catch their connecting flight to Indonesia, but ended up being stuck in Bangkok for four days. The band tried a different Bangkok airport, then a train station going to Malaysia, and even tried to take a couple vans to Cambodia to fly out from there. Unfortunately none of these plans worked out and eventually AS I LAY DYING were able to fly out of a military base a couple hours outside of Bangkok.

Due to all the delays with the protest going on at Bangkok’s airports, the 11/29 Thailand show had to be cancelled since it was a festival with other international acts that could not enter the country. The Indonesia show in Jakarta however was moved from 11/27 to Sunday 11/30 and ended up being an amazing show for AS I LAY DYING. Even after the date was rescheduled 2,500 turned out to watch the San Diego groups blistering live set. It’s definitely not the ideal way to spend Thanksgiving and unfortunately the band’s merch was (and still is) stuck in customs in Bangkok, but AS I LAY DYING had an incredible time playing the show in Jakarta and found everyone to be extremely hospitable. AS I LAY DYING is disappointed they could not play for their fans in Thailand, but look forward to returning as soon as their schedule permits.

In other touring news, be sure to catch AS I LAY DYING when they hit the road with Protest The Hero, The Human Abstract, and Mychildren Mybride in January. Check the TOUR DATES section for more information.
