The band was formed in 1993, but the official material was released after a while, i.e. in 2001. Henceforth the band has been releasing albums – demos and one their first long play, which is ‘Recipere Ferum’. Also there were some shifts in the line up, some of the band members could not make up their minds whether to stay in the group or not, so they were leaving and coming back, again, and again, and…

This album is a perfect example of a totally brainless butchery, aimed at people without any musical taste. The energy of black metal, and its brutality are replaced by stubbornness and straightforward performance. France has a very small metal scene, and this band explains why it is so. The compositions are dull and monotonous, it is hard to find the difference between the tracks, only the indicated number changing on the display depict the situation. I have to admit, that this pretty straightforward and totally not innovative music got on my nerve. There is only one track, worth mentioning, and this is ‘Mortifer Signum’, especially thanks to its acoustic beginning, which finally brings a slight change in the play, makes the sound a bit different. Although after a few seconds everything gets back on the same track and the music follows it till the end. Thus the album is completely uninteresting.

Thanks to such bands black metal loses its fans, who became convinced that such music does not offer much, which is definitely not true. More innovation and originality, ANIMUS HERILIS should try to develop their sound, so that they would differ from the rest of the black metal underground pulp.
