Cool Songs: Interting the Bible, Cavalry Church of the Dead, In My Cold Grave
CEMETARY DESEKRATOR is a collection of the best black and death metal musicians the state of Michigan has to offer. The group features former and current members of such revered acts as SUMMON, WIND OF THE BLACK MOUNTAINS, MASOCHIST, FLESH FOR THE BEAST, FUNERAL POSSESSION, and SADOMASOCHISM. Known by many names such as Satanic Steve, Psycho Steve, and on this album Nunrapist, Steve Russell spawned this atrocity known as CEMETARY DESEKRATOR. Russell has always been known for pushing the boundaries of socially acceptable behavior and speech. This being the groups second album (the appropriate-titled Fuck Christ was their first), Nocturnal Sleep Until Autumn shows the satanic front man stepping even further into obscene, blasphemous territories.
The album begins with Nunrapist cursing God, the Virgin Mary, and Jesus Christ and all his followers. This sacrilegious beginning sets the tone for the four Christian-slaughtering black metal tracks that follow. The title track ensues with frantic stop-and-start rhythms and churning guitar riffs. Russell employs various vocal effects such as an echo to transform his voice into a chthonic din.
In My Cold Grave is led by furious drum rolls and super sonic blast beats courtesy of SUMMON drummer, Josh Moore. Moore shows impeccable talent and precision during a swift slow down. Nunrapist follows the tumbling beat with plummeting power chords. This portion of the song invokes visions of a demonic horde celebrating victory of Heavens angels.
The black mass-themed Inverting the Bible contains the albums best guitar riffing. Russell hits just the right notes to fill the airwaves with the type of negative energy only great black metal bands can produce. By using a variety of guitar techniques such as speed metal picking, triplets, and harmonics, he employs enough change to keep the music flowing.
Nocturnal Sleep Until Autumn is a true black metal album played by some of the United States most revered and talented black and death metal artists. Although not was known as the multitude of other bands that these musicians grace, CEMETARY DESEKRATOR can hold its own with just about any band possessing a hell bound heart.
