FURIA „Re-Birth”

FURIA „Re-Birth” - okładka

So I'm fairly familiar with FURIA as I randomly discovered them last summer while digging through various websites. I, in turn, added them to my other site's bandlist and jumped on this review when I saw it available in our queue. I have been a pretty big fan of the things that FURIA has done since about 2003's “Un Lac De Larmes Et De Sang”. This demo which was released in 2005 shows the shift between that album and last year's “Kheros”.

Although many distinctions can be seen in FURIA's music on this demo versus the albums of old, I believe the songwriting aspect of FURIA is the most improved overall. The transistions seem less rushed and the genre-clashing that was clearly seen as rough in earlier releases is getting much smoother and easier on the listener's ears. The catchiness of the dueling guitars and the pounding rhythm section draws comparisons to French mates GOJIRA. That is not all of FURIA's arsenal however, as ever-present is the majesty of symphonic black metal as well as folk elements that sound as though they could've come off a NOUMENA record. Lastly, the shift from French to English vocals is surely going to make FURIA more accessible which was the smart move in my opinion.

Personally, I feel as though FURIA could be on the brink of something here. They have a lot of diverrsity and can fit into many different subgenres. I'd recommend checking out this demo as well as 2006's “Kheros”.
