No fear for tomorrow – 2005

This is again a debut album in front of me… A debut album called „No fear of tomorrow“, recorded by the Swedish band STORMCROW. Mainly the quintet plays classical power metal. They haven´t invented this genre newly, but the things I can listen to are great melodies, highspeed drums (by Daniel Melo), a profitable singer (named Anders Hjärtström), as well as good songwriting.

Three demo CD´s were released since the band creation four years ago… And also „No fear of tomorrow“ had to wait for its (release) date, because the band didn´t find a bassist. After that problem was solved with Johan Dyyk, the album can be sold in the spring 2006. Good things come to those who wait…
So first the opener „Million Miles“ can start with Helloween-like precision. The vocals of singer Anders Hjärtström strangly remind me on a blend of ex-Nocturnal Rites Sänger Anders Zackrisson and ex-Gothic Knights voice Rick Sanchez, just done better. After a real melodic metal piece, we come to the next song: Hard rock with „Last train of hope“. A trip to the direction of Rhapsody: “The grievous story of Mary Grace”. A little break with “Down to the river”, but only to start with “Dr. X in wonderland“, a speed metal hymn. „Follow the sign“: again reminds me on Gothic Knights… This song has got good double bass. Hymn-like sounds in „Borderline“. The title track „No fear for tomorrow“ goes more to the area of the mid-tempo. An instrumental song may not miss, very much keyboards, but anyway good: „Chasing a shadow“. In the end we have „The final battle“ that essentially sounds like Iron Maiden.

Typical power metal with the typical vocals, pleasantly produced, mixed and mastered by Magnus Jonsson. The album was recorded in the WET Paint Studio.

Clear and brief: good power metal CD! I like it, but generally seen, the guys are going to swim with the bulk and won´t stick out.

note: 8,5/10
