SHATTERED HOPE „A View Of Grief”

SHATTERED HOPE „A View Of Grief” - okładka
Music : Doom/Death metal
Cool Songs : Vital Lie, Hollow Promises

I have no info about Shattered Hope. I got their demo cd by a member of the band in the live show of Saturnus in Greece and I guess it is their debut one as I haven’t heard their name again and they are young as I can see in their photo.

Their name and the title of their demo are very descriptive about their music. Shattered Hope are into doom/death metal and they are very good. There are not many bands in this style in Greece and the good ones worldwide are also very few these years. Only Swallow The Sun and Draconian come to my mind right now. Doom/death metal may be a little bit on ice nowadays but it is good to see new good bands that manage to express their feelings through their music. And Shattered Hope managed to excite me with these 6 songs of their demo. In “A View Of Grief” I found influences by bands like Saturnus, My Dying Bride and Amorphis in some parts. But what I liked most is that the band can combine these influenced with their personal sound so they don’t sound like a copy band. Their music has many slow and atmospheric parts with mournful guitar melodies and furthermore you can find many fast breaks in their songs which have a good structure and this is very important for every band of this style. Their vocals are clean and harsh but I think that the clean ones need some work. The production is good but not great and I think they can do something better next time. My favorite track of this release is “My Perfect Illusion” which is a really wonderful song.

I am glad to see a good band in this style from Greece. I just hope they will keep working hard and release something even better as they have the required skills to do that.
