DIMMU BORGIR is a band that I am fairly new to due to being very selective with my death metal. Here in the last five to ten years it all has started to run together and sound the same. It was that way with this band in the early stages then about there third disc they started setting themselves apart and have been doing so steadly on every disc up to this one. I was looking forward to this release from the day I heard it was in the making. First off let me say with a evil grin that the apocalypse is upon us in full force and it is a truly dark ending my friends. It is hard to believe that a death metal band can interweave such beautiful string and piano arrangements with such brutal riffs and pummeling drum work and come up with a sound that is just breath taking. The sounds that come from this CD are of apocalyptic proportions that is awe inspiring as well as breath taking. Weather this CD was meant to be a concept album or not it comes across that way. All the tracks can more then stand on there own but is best apprieceated when played in there entirety from start to finish so you dont miss any second of brilliance of this disc. When listening to this disc you can just close your eyes and at times picture Shagrath standing on a mountain with gale force winds whipping around hem as he raises his hand to command the last days. Textured, layered, and brilliantly written lyrics as well as some of the heaviest but as well as the most soothing music that has been written in the history of this band. This is by far the best work this band has ever done and will be hard to beat with the next disc. As for an overall statement just let me say this. THIS IN MY OPINION IS BY FAR THE BEST DEATH METAL DISC EVER DONE. It will be a cold day in hell before this one is topped. Any fan of the band would be a fool not to pick this one up. With this disc this band will knock a few bands off of the top of the mountain and in time will clame the crown of death metal kings.
