CARNAL LUST „Whore of Violence”

CARNAL LUST „Whore of Violence” - okładka

Sometimes you find a CD that just doesn’t do anything but annoy. I found that when I put in CARNAL LUST who hails from Paris, France. Don’t get me wrong its not that they are bad in their delivery, but to me, they take a lot of potentially good riffs and fuck them up. Making a lot of unneeded noise. It seems as if at time they get lost during songs. They start a good riff and head into a different direction and totally loose the listener. I think I heard several different riffs during all 10 tracks, which could have been used to make a longer disc or used on new songs for a release later on. It was hard to get into a song because you never knew what they were up to.

I will give them some credit though. When they do find a rhythm that’s catchy, they play enough measures to get your attention.

Another annoying aspect of the CD, is the horrible backing vocals. I wanted to punch the stereo every time I heard them. Track 10 is just a bunch of fucking noise that made me shut off the stereo every time it came on. It made no sense at all- just static noise. A total waste of time. Nothing really stood out as hopeful in this CD. I didn’t care for the drum sound at all. At times, I stared wondering who was making all the racket on the drums. There was plenty of blast beats, but nothing catchy in the sense of change-ups and rolls. I am just not that impressed. The vocals are screamed at times and kind of raspy. They’re ok, but irritate the ears after a long time of listening.

I can’t say bad things about the guitar work. Again, some cool riffs but not so many in one song please. Find two to four riffs and stick with them for a song. The day of every changing rhythm has been dead and buried for years now. Break them down and use somewhere else. You can’t hear the bass work to well, so no bad comments on that note. What I could make out really doesn’t sound bad.

If they could get their bearings down, and not run all over the CD, they could open some eyes. The production isn’t all that bad, but it isn’t all that good either. I would like to hear more from them in future, but they need to rethink their musical writing. I did however read the lyrics and thought they were good. Change some things around and rebuild. Keep the brutality, but don’t be annoying.

note: 4/10
