DEEDS OF FLESH „Mark of the Legion”

DEEDS OF FLESH „Mark of the Legion” - okładka

The American brutal Death Metal scene seems to take a lot of stick, which is a crying shame, because underneath all of the crap that saturates the scene, there are some real diamonds poking their heads through, who produce some downright brutal music. In my opinion, Deeds of Flesh are one of those bands. Having followed them since their inception, it gives me a lot of pleasure to see how they have evolved over the course of four albums. Having once again opted to record at Moon Productions (as with their three previous albums), “Mark of the legion” is their best produced album to date. It is also their best album. The opening track “Cleansed by fire” sets the tone for the whole album. This is pure Californian death metal and Deeds of Flesh wouldn't sound right doing anything else. Unlike Dying Fetus, who went hardcore on us, Deeds of Flesh have stuck to what they do best and have created one hell of an album for others to match or improve upon. Relentless double – bass drumming, provided by Mike Hamilton (where do they keep finding these guys?), is topped with a rumbling bass and Erik's twisted riffs. The vocals don't try anything new, but Erik does use different vocal ranges and has one of the lowest voices in death metal. The band sound impressive during the fast parts, but it's when they slow things down, that they really come into their own. “An eternity of feasting and brawling” is simply devastating in its attack, as is “Master of murder” and “Ideal genocide”. For a lot of you, this will be a “take it or leave it” release, but for those of you who appreciate well played, solid, brutal death metal, I can't recommend this highly enough.

RECOMMENDED TRACKS: “An eternity of feasting and brawling”, “Mark of the legion” and “Master of murder”.
