METALLICA LIVES AGAIN!!!

But NOT in the same way, St. Anger doesn't sounds like anything they ever released before. Expectations were skyrocketing, Metallica promised to be fast and furious again. And I'm totally satisfied.

Metallica past its (Re-)Load period, which is in itself a good thing (some people did, but most fans didn't like the band's new pop/country/hard rock sound). The new Metallica isn't like this in any way, Aggressive, Groovy, and LOUD. Fast and Furious, (double bass izz back!) like they just got fucked in the ass real bad. These guys evolved a lot, and the music is more in-your-face, so no more long epic stuff and beating around the bush. The songs last pretty long, but never get bored, Metallica manages to keep them from falling apart (what many bands can't do).

The new bassist Rob Trujillo (formerly Suicidal Tendencies) gives the band a new sort of groovy sound, that can be compared to Anthrax' sound. Lars, on the drums, really delivers good stuff, and the overall sounds like beating the living shit out of kitchenutensils. Therefor, the rhythm section really stands out, and the album sounds like a sum of everything that has been done by the more popular metal bands in the last decades.

The guitars sound meatier and dirtier than ever before, and the overall production is very raw and angry, with Lars sounding like drumming on pans and pottery. No solos on this one, this may be disappointing, but other hand, solos would not fit in the overall of the album, that sounds like t(h)rash metal more than any band now (due to the drums). It's almost like the entire band is playing their guts off right in front of you, in your tiny little room/garage.

I have one complaint on this album: the songtexts don't sound natural all the time. Take the song St. Anger for example, it comes with a repeating 'siiiiiiin tenguuuur' all the time, what doesn't sound very cool. But hey, you'll learn to ignore it after a while, and the rest of the seven-and-a-half-minute clocking song sounds absolutely awesome!

It is very important to be openminded if you want to enjoy this record, if not, you'll HATE it. However, a first listen to the album may seem to be one giant track, you'll really enjoy it, or get sick at the first listen. So listen before you buy it.
