MAGUS BEAST/AGGRESSOR „Say Your Prayers”

I'm listening to a release called SAY YOUR PRAYERS from Aggressor (1996) Before The Dawn Of Early Man, The Magus Beast Ruled The Land the opening track Magus Beast is where the New York metal assault Magus Beast (known as Aggressor prior to 2003) derived their namesake. SAY YOUR PRAYERS is clearly a classic slab of metal, taking cues from Deadly Blessing ASCEND FROM THE CAULDRON (New Renaissance Records 80s metal classic), Metal Church and Overkill. Vocalist Ron Scauri really has the Blitz Ellsworth meets David Wayne shrieking- lung approach and the vocal wailing counteracts the riff tantalizing shred mayhem perfectly! Any CD with thrash in this style is more than welcome in my CD collection! Even though SAY YOUR PRAYERS is from the mid-90s the music purely bleeds 80s. This disc is clearly worth looking into if you are an 80s classic power/speed/thrash aficionado!

The line-up responsible for SAY YOUR PRAYERS included Ron Scauri (as already mentioned), John Rup (Guitars and Backing Vocals), Dave Zob (Bass) and Steve Williams (Drums). Now, as of 2003 their configuration consists of Ron Scauri (vocals), John Rup (Lead & Rhythm Guitars), Andy Zuppardi (Lead & Rhythm Guitars), Tim Malone (Bass, Backing Vocals) and Steve Williams (Drums).

Finally, The complete Aggressor/Magus Beast release history includes a 5-song cassette demo in 1989 titled SCREAMS IN THE NIGHT, a 3-song release in the early 1990s, CRUCIFIED, and the 96 effort here SAY YOUR PRAYERS. You can actually purchase SAY YOUR PRAYERS and a CDR of CRUCIFIED for only $11 from the Magus Beast website. And even though various typical life decisions (band members moving away and other various things) kept the group inactive for a short time, Magus Beast is back reportedly in full force. They have opened shows for the likes of Overkill, Fates Warning, Virgin Steele (The Guardians Of The Flame), TT Quick (Metal Of Honor), and Savatage; a new CD should also be in the works. If they still have the same aggression in the current year as they had when Say Your Prayers was recorded they should be able to turn some heads in the metal circles.
