The genre Power Metal is not inert to metalheads. They love it for its dynamics, the gallop intertwined with balladic decelerations, the catching instrumental-vocal melody, which easily are put into ears, also for the majestic-elevated atmosphere intertwined with nostalgia, for “brotherly” choires. Or other metalheads thinking about Power Metal do a grimace with the word “yuck”, emphasizing that it is too melodious, too sweety, too positive, too virtuosic… But I think that a well made Power Metal can be really great stuff. And such is with VEONITY’s “Legend Of The Starborn” …

The third album of warlike power-metalheads from Sweden is the concept-album that continues the story started on “Into The Void” in 2016. This album musically it is the very classic. Here is the everything I mentioned above. It is worth noting that the vocalist (as well as the choirs) perfectly fulfilled their task, because many singers in this type music are unable to cope with the requirements posed by the vocal canons of Power Metal. There is pure melodic singing which, if necessary, rises with falsetto or screams predatory. There are also strong accenting yells and choirs.

The galloping pace and moody melody make every song quickly catchy. Of course, in spite of this ubiquitous specific melody, dynamic guitars are also heard, often heavy and cutting, of course enriched by virtuoso-neoclassical solo parts of guitars. Fast, energetic rhythms alternate with moody decelerations. Sometimes the keyboards sound softly in the background. In total, each of the songs could be promoting a single or a hit.

On the one hand, fans of HAMMERFALL, BLIND GUARDIAN, STARTOVARIUS, RHAPSODY and the like will not be disappointed listening to VEONITY. On the other hand, a power-metal snake eats its tail. But all in all the same happens in other traditional species of Metal.
