HELEVORN is another band promoted by the Spanish company Blood Fire Death music promotions & management. This time the material perfectly fitted to my taste and the more that I have not heard this type of music for a long time.
Spanish HELEVORN has been around for 20 years (!) But this is only their fourth album. Does not matter! The music they present on this album thouch me a lot. The music is very powerful, majestic, heavy and at the same time melodious and filled with depressive emotions connected with anger…
Many years ago I loved music in the style of MY DYING BRIDE, PARADISE LOST, AMORPHIS and similar… Doom Metal with the elements of Death Metal or Gothic Metal… And HELEVORN is the band, which proved that this music still lives, that they are still fans of such type of playing…
HELEVORN’s music evokes strong shivers of emotions… sadness, despair, melancholy, doubt… but it also evokes emotions of anger and even controlled aggressio … Although I would be the happiest man in the world but at the time of listening to “Aamamata” I can not enjoy myself, I can not think about something jolly. At that time thoughts hopeless are swirling in my head…
These heavy guitar riffs, their specific melodies, this somber even funeral paces, wistful guitar melodies and of course deadly serious growls, screams and depressed singing suppress all remnants of joy and optimism… Sometimes the female vocals (sad or sometimes ethnically sounding) are also joined as well as the melorecitations and the clean guitars or the keyboards sounds in the background, which additionally emphasize the climate of the whole.
The last song “La Sibil·la” is an adaptation of a Catalan medieval song from the 10th century converted into sad Doom Metal.
The music treads morosely like a funeral procession… but it’s beautiful… These emotions! By listening to “Aamamata” you can cry together with HELEVORN.
