SUFFOCATION „Effigy Of The Forgotten”

The beginning of this awesome death metal band from Long Island, New York is dated somewhere in the late 80's. Their 1991 album “Effigy Of The Forgotten” was their first album. Before they recorded a demo of “Reincremation” (which was so good, many labels were interested with signing a deal with them) and an Ep called “Human Waste”. “Human Waste” contained 6 songs. Half of the songs (“Infecting The Crypts”, “Mass Obliteration” & “Jesus Wept”) we can find on the album “Effigy Of The Forgotten”. Music on “Effigy Of The Forgotten” is really extremely brut death metal. There's a lot of awesome riffs, beautifully played guitar solo parts, the drummers very fast work, and the vocalist's grizzly sound alike voice (in two songs backed up by George “Corpsegrinder” Fischer (ex-Monstrosity, now Cannibal Corpse) all of those things make sure that the person that's listening to the album, won't get bored.

Lyrics by Josh Baroh aren't really original. They're lika combination of what death metal bands normally sing about. So, on one side we have: attacking Christianity (“Effigy Of The Forgotten”, “Liege Of Inveracity”, “Jesus Wept”) and a black vision of the future, on the other side we have gore style lyrics („Infecting The Crypts”, „Involuntary Slaughter”). The one and only Scott Burns produced the album, so their album sounds similar to other labels with which he worked at the time. Today this album is a classic of brutal death metal music, and many people mention the band as the main source of inspiration for death metal bands. This album is a must have for any good death metal fan.
