This is the second full album of Czech extreme musicians from ORIGIN OF INFINITY entitled “After the Slumber” released on their 5th anniversary. Before that, there were two EPs, “Chronosphere” from 2022, “Ocvltism” in 2021 (which I wrote about some time ago and I remember it with “pleasure”, if you can use such the word for extreme music) and the debut album “The Last Day On Earth” from 2019…

As it was on the well-known (for me) EP “Ocvltism” and this time ORIGIN OF INFINITY has tuned the guitars in a way defined as Drop D (or so I think), which gives a really crushing sound… very deep… And those guitar hits with djent and groove make the music turn out your viscera inside out. And you don’t need mercilessly fast tempos and incessant blasts for this, although sometimes they happen here in opposition to the climatic and monumental slowdowns.

Very heavy and very rhythmic guitar licks, which are often diversified, form the basis of the compositions, to which guitar accents (such as squeaks or even clean passages) and climatic solos, often marked by Progressive Metal and even minimal Post-Rock atmosphere, have been skillfully introduced. The instrumental side of these arrangements is very technical. Here every instrument plays an important role. Of course, apart from the guitars, the bass is constantly active and matches to the guitar licks. And the extensive percussion themes emphasize the complex face of these extreme compositions… It is not without reason that the band reportedly released the instrumental version of the album.

But as befits to modernist Metalcore/Deathcore, there could be no lack of diverse extreme vocals, from growls to screams and screeches, which emanate singly or in polyphonic arrangements.

On “After The Slumber” it is crushing, it is rhythmic, sometimes it is melancholic and mysterious, but always it is dark. ORIGIN OF INFINITY with “After The Slumber” is definitely modern extreme Metal, progressive and very ambitious.

Guests were invited to collaborate on the album. Honza Kapák from BOHEMYST to the bass and some guitar’s solo. In turn, to the vocals support – Tomáš “Hospi” Hospodka from VICTIMS and Jiří Krš from PANDEMIA, known to most “deathmaniacs”.
